Insanity Workout Review
The Insanity workout from Shaun T, created by Beachbody, is by far, the hardest workout I have ever endured.I have yet to find myself working out that hard or sweating that much but I have to tell you that I loved every single minute of it. There is only word that describes this 60 day intense home workout routine and they already named it this, INSANITY!
If you want to really get into the best shape of your life then this is the program for you but I should warn you, the Insanity workout is NOT for beginners.

What Can You Expect from Insanity Workouts?
Shaun T, creator of Hip Hop Abs, incorporates non-traditional interval techniques called MAX interval training into the Insanity workouts. So, nstead of short bouts of exercise with longer periods of rest, MAX intervals involves longer periods of cardio exercise followed by shorter duration rest breaks. Beachbody indicates that this produces faster results as you can burn up to 1,000 calories in a single Insanity
workout.
When you purchase the Insanity
workout program, you get 10
workout DVD's, a fitness guide, an Insanity wall calendar, as well as an Elite nutrition guide to help you maximize your results. During the first month you will complete the following workouts in addition to the FIT TEST DVD.
The first month's workouts include:
- Plyometric Cardio Circuit
- Cardio Power and Resistance
- Pure Cardio
- Cardio Abs
- Cardio Recovery
- Core Cardio and Balance
Month 2 workouts include:
- Max Interval Plyo
- Max Interval Circuit
- Cardio Abs
- Max Recovery
- Max Cardio
MONTH ONE: What I like about the Insanity workouts is that they are 35-40 minutes and because you are working so hard, they go by so quickly. I started noticing results the first same week especially in my weight and cardio endurance. When I first started the program, I thought that the 6-minute warm up was going to kill me off but after the first week, it was much easier.
The first day you are strongly encouraged to complete the FIT TEST which is basically a max repitition of 10 different exercises. You will do this once every 2 weeks during the 60-day program. Do NOT skip this step as it is quite important not only because it is a way to measure your progress but also to analyze your ability to complete a program of this nature.
After completing month one my most noticeble changes were improved muscle definition in my legs, arms, and abdominals. I had lost about 5 pounds and 2 inches of my wait. I was also able to do 2 times more of the exercises of the FIT TEST than the very first time I completed it. My favorite workout of the first month was Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs.
MONTH TWO: Duration of workouts are about 55-60 minutes and MUCH more intense than the first month but Shaun T makes them so much fun that I don't mind the longer workouts. My favorite workout of the second month was Cardio Interval Plyo. After the final workout, I had lost a total of 10 pounds, 4 total body inches and a huge improvement in my Fit Test results.
How Does Insanity Compare to P90X?
If you have completed or are completing the P90X program, by Tony Horton you might be interested in learning some of the similarities and differences between Insanity and P90X. Or maybe you are contemplating about which program to purchase. I hope this review helps you in that decision making process.
P90X and Insanity workouts are both very high intense fitness workouts programs. P90X, is a 90-day fitness program that incorporates muscle confusion with a balance of cardio, strength and flexibility, as well as weight training. Insanity is a 60 day very cardio-intense
workout program that uses your own body weight to lose fat and build lean muscle mass.
Both programs vary greatly by the time it takes to complete each daily
workout program. P90X workouts range from 60-90 minutes throughout the entire program. Insanity workouts start with 35-40 minute workouts and during the second month each workout are between 55-60 minutes. P90X, at least the classic and lean versions of the program is much less cardio intense when compared to Insanity.
My Insanity Workout Review?
From my experience after doing both programs, the main differences that I noticed in my own body is the development of more lean muscle mass and much more definition in my arms using Insanity than with P90X. I think both programs are awesome because of the variety and effectiveness of the training you receive. I plan to develop an Insanity/P90X Hybrid program in the very neat future. As far as the nutrition plans provided by P90X and INsanity, I really prefer the Elite Nutrition plan that comes with the Insanity. Primarily this is because it is much higher in carbohydrates and I like the foods they recommend better than P90X.
Obviously you are allowed a high carb content with Insanity because our bodies need the extra energy to complete these intense workouts and keep our metabolism running. As mentioned above, it is not uncommon to burn up to 1,000 calories per Insanity workout so be sure to take in enough calories. This is definitely not the time to limit calories but it is very important to make the right choices.
