Best Way to Lose Weight
The best way to lose weight does not include a fad diet or a ridiculous exercise program but rather a healthy eating plan and a regular fitness program. When people look to lose weight, most focus on only one side of the energy balance pendulum which is either calorie restriction or starting a fitness program but not both. Yes, initially restricting calories will often be enough for some people to lose a
few pounds in the beginning but eventually our bodies will reach a plateau and the weight loss will subside.
So, adding in a fitness program will restart our metabolism levels and once again force our bodies to burn fat and lose weight. Also, the worst is when you restrict calories to a low amount, lose weight, and then go back to your old habits, you can the weight you lost and then some. Nobody wants that to happen, right? Right! Below are a few tips to help you understand that the best way to lose weight is through fitness and nutrition. Nothing else.
When you only restrict calories and especially when you restrict too many calories, your body will start to lose any lean muscle mass that you already have. If you are not eating enough calories in a day for your body to keep up, then it goes into a "fight or flight" situation where it stores fat and tries to conserve energy which is obviously, the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. It is not common to see people actually gain weight during the phase because of the calorie restriction.
Now, lets flip the coin and say you start a fitness program but do not make any changes to your diet or calorie intake and continue to eat unhealthy foods. Your body is not set up to efficiently burn fat or calories and more than likely you won't see a significant change in your body weight or shape. For instance, during my first round of P90X, an extreme home fitness workout, I thought that I could do the workouts and not follow the nutrition plan and I was upset that I didn't get the results I was looking for. Yes, I had shed a few pounds and gained some physical endurance and muscle strength, but I didn't acheive the weight loss or the lean muscle development that I had hoped. It wasn't until the second round when I followed the healthy eating plan did I receive the results that I wanted.
So, the smart and best way to lose weight at a normal, healthy pace is to start with a reduced calorie diet and a regular fitness workout routine.
