Beginner Workout Ideas
Start your workout journey with a beginner workout instead of trying to do too much too soon. This is especially important because picking the right workout to fit your needs help improve effectiveness and prevent boredom but it also reduces chances for injury. You can't continue with your fitness regimine if you are injured so I am glad that you found this site on beginner workouts.
Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your new exercise routine.
- Consistency is key! Chose a fitness program that you can commit to and be consistent with. Don't chose a program that you know will be hard to fit into your schedule. For instance, select a 10-minute workout
if you are really short on time yet still want to get a great
workout and get results. Selecting a 60 minute workout program
that you can't commit to long-term is not a good idea as your
are setting yourself up for failure.
- Perform an initial fit test to measure you
starting level of fitness. I strongly recommend that before you
do this before starting any beginner workout program. Also, if
you haven't performed exercise in the past several years, I
recommend a visit with your physician prior to getting started.
All of the programs that I recommend on this page include a fit
test to measure your starting point and evaluate your success.
- Schedule time for yourself. This is key because you won't be able to take care of anyone else if you don't first take care of you and your needs. Everyday, I schedule out an hour, just like any other appointment that I wouldn't miss, which ensures that I get my workout scheduled each day.
Do
NOT compromise this time.
- Focus on your nutrition plan just as much
as your fitness. If you do not make changes to your diet along with your fitness routine you are much less likely to reach your goals. All of our beginner workout programs also include a diet and nutrition guide to get you started. We also offer an online meal planning service to our Beachbody Club Members.
- Get a great pair of shoes. Picking the right type of athletic shoe for your program is so important to reducing aches and pains in your joints. You don't want your feet to be killing you during your workouts. Cross trainers are great for home fitness programs because they provide great support and versatility over running shoes.

Power90
Power 90 or P90 is a great workout
plan for those of you just getting started. Power90 is the precursor program to the extreme home fitness program called
P90X. Released in the early 90's, Tony Horton created an awesome introduction to cardio and resistance (weight) training. Also a 90-day total body fitnss program, millions of people have obtained the results they have been looking for in less than 40 minutes a day (most workouts are less are about 35 minutes).
The program includes 5 workouts including Phase I-2 and Phase 3-4 each with a gradual increase in difficulty as well as a bonus cardio workout. You receive a nutrition plan as well as a resistance program to get started.
My husband started his weight loss/fitness journey using this program and lost 20 lbs in 90 days. He also replaced one meal a day with Shakeology to maximize his results and stop cravings!
TurboJam
Turbo Jam is such a great up-tempo cardio program. If you like
great music, kickboxing, and bodysculpting then be sure to give
this program a 2nd look. It is a great introductory program to
Chalene's TurboFire workouts as
well.
You also receive 5 workouts as well as turbo weighted gloves now come included in the basic package. Chalene Johnson is so much fun to workout with and I am confident that if you like any of the activities mentioned above you will thoroughly enjoy this great beginner workout.
